Comfortable win for Liverpool

A Liverpool side made up mainly of fringe players rounded off their season with a 4-0 victory over Shamrock Rovers in a friendly at Dublin's Aviva Stadium.

None of the Reds' World Cup contingent were involved in the game - which was screened live on BT Sport - and while Daniel Agger, Philippe Coutinho and Martin Skrtel travelled with the squad, they were not involved.

Of those named in the starting line-up only midfielder Lucas Leiva and Joe Allen had played a significant number of games for the first team this season, although Fabio Borini returned from a season-long loan spell at Sunderland to continue his good form with a goal.

Forward Iago Aspas, whose future at Anfield remains in doubt after an uninspiring debut campaign, opened the scoring after just eight minutes with a smart left-foot finish.

Less than two minutes into the second half Borini netted an impressive curling effort, with defender Martin Kelly capitalising on a deflection to add the third and under-21s striker Jack Dunn rounding off the scoring with six minutes to go.
