City could steal our place in the Big Four, fears Liverpool defender Carragher

Jamie Carragher believes mega-rich Manchester City pose the biggest threat to Liverpool's standing in the Big Four this season. Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea have hogged the Champions League spots for the last four seasons but Carragher says that could be all about to change following the influx of money at City. The defender fears City, who have spent more than £100m this summer on players, will splash the cash again in the January transfer window which will help Mark Hughes' men maintain their challenge in the Barclays Premier League throughout the season. Carragher, whose Liverpool side welcome Burnley to Anfield for the first time in 33 years. said: 'The top four places will certainly be up for grabs, but we want to make sure we are up there. With the other teams becoming involved hopefully they will take points off the other big sides as well. 'They have got some great players, world-class players and I am sure they will be buying more in January, so they are going to be a massive threat.' Liverpool have already lost two games this season and full-back Fabio Aurelio, who returns to the squad after recovering from a knee injury, has warned Rafa Benitez's side they cannot afford to squander any points. Aurelio says it was dropping points to similar sides to Burnley which cost them the chance of winning the title last season. The Brazilian said: 'Burnley have surprised everyone and have done really well. We know it will be a hard game because when teams come here they play deep and narrow and it's always difficult to break them down. 'We have to work hard and score as soon as we can and take control of the game. We are playing at home and we have to show we are stronger than them. 'We lost some home points last season which cost us the title in the end. Hopefully this season we can fight for the title again.'
