CHELSEA
Thibaut Courtois: Exposed for the first goal. Nowhere near the second. Good save near the end. 6/10
Cesar Azpilicueta: Went AWOL for Liverpool's opening goal and struggled throughout. 5
Gary Cahill: Needed to take charge at the back but instead contributed to the malaise. 5
David Luiz: Not a happy homecoming as Liverpool gave him and Chelsea a bloody nose. 5
Branislav Ivanovic: Lethargic performance from the right-back who never looked comfortable. 5
N'Golo Kante: His usual busy self but was unable to break up Liverpool's play. 6
Nemanja Matic: Sloppy in possession in the first half, but his intervention set up Costa's goal. 6
Oscar: Another who lost the midfield battle. Willing runner but nothing came off. 6
Willian: Will not look back on his 100th Premier League appearance with much fondness. 6
Eden Hazard: Unable to escape the clutches of Clyne, a frustrating night for the Belgian. 6
Diego Costa: Feeding off scraps for the first hour but still came up with his fifth goal of the season. 7
Substitutes:
Pedro (for Oscar, 84) Last throw of the dice for Chelsea, but it did not come off. 6
Cesc Fabregas (for Matic, 84) Crowd were calling for him earlier. Hit free-kick into wall. 6
Victor Moses (for Willian, 84) Third part of triple substitution, unable to make a difference. 6
LIVERPOOL
Simon Mignolet: Place under scrutiny with new signing Loris Karius on the bench, and still unconvincing. 6
Nathaniel Clyne: Kept Hazard as quiet as possible and managed to get forward to good effect as well. 7
Joel Matip: Pretty unflappable at the back and the Cameroonian is also a threat going forward. 7
Dejan Lovren: Kept Costa quiet for the most part and popped up to score Liverpool's opener. 7
James Milner: Still filling in at left-back and doing all that is asked of him with no fuss as usual. 7
Jordan Henderson: A captain's display and a stunning goal in front of England boss Sam Allardyce. 8
Georginio Wijnaldum: A real midfield workhorse. Enjoyed the battle with Matic and Oscar. 7
Adam Lallana: Seems to be growing in stature with every match this season. Classy display. 8
Philippe Coutinho: Superb cross to set up Lovren for Liverpool's opener and a constant menace. 7
Sadio Mane: Energetic as ever to keep Chelsea's defence busy. Luiz will be chasing him in his sleep. 8
Daniel Sturridge: Fizzed a shot across goal but an otherwise quiet evening for the England striker. 6
Substitutes:
Divock Origi (for Sturridge, 57): Denied a third goal by a fine near-post save from Courtois. 6
Lucas (for Coutinho, 82) Fortunately no repeat of last week's brain fade against Leicester. 6
Kevin Stewart (for Wijnaldum, 90) Youngster got another run-out to help run down the clock. 6
