Carroll out until mid-October

West Ham striker Andy Carroll has been ruled out for up to six weeks following the hamstring injury he sustained in the 3-0 win over Fulham. The 23-year-old limped off 68 minutes into his debut for the Hammers last Saturday, having just joined on loan from Liverpool.

Carroll withdrew from England's World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine and he now looks set to miss West Ham's Capital One Cup tie at home to Wigan and Premier League games against Norwich, Sunderland, QPR and Arsenal. Carroll is also a doubt for England's next World Cup qualifying games against San Marino and Poland in early October.

After Carroll suffered the injury on Saturday, Hammers boss Sam Allardyce said: "He'll probably be on the treatment bench for a while. "He over-extended himself. We won't know the extent of the injury ntil the scan and we see how serious it is. "He is just so gutted because he has got injured and he can't go to England, that is why he is most disappointed because he wanted to get off there."
