Carragher - We have the edge

Liverpool's dominance over Chelsea in the league this season could give them the advantage heading into this week's UEFA Champions League clash, according to Jamie Carragher. The Reds have taken six points from the capital club this term and Carragher hopes it could prove to be a good omen heading into their European summit meeting. Anfield hosts yet another gargantuan clash between the two clubs on Wednesday, a game that can be seen live on Sky Sports 2 & HD2, in what is likely to be another close-fought affair. Remarkably, this season's quarter-final clash is the fifth successive campaign they have met in Europe's premier club competition and Carragher believes the slightest of margins could decide the tie. And with Liverpool having been dominant in domestic action this season, the 31-year-old defender insists they head into the game with confidence. "We've got a great record against Chelsea this season and if we play the way we have done against them in the two league matches then we know we can go through," he told the club's official website. "The fact we did the double against them might give us that extra confidence. I'm sure if they'd beaten us twice we'd have gone into it with a bit more trepidation, but the fact we won twice will give us a bit of a boost." Carragher concedes that he would have preferred to be facing Bayern Munich rather than having to play another English side. "My initial reaction was that I didn't really want us to get another English team because Europe is about playing European teams," he said. "The Chelsea lads probably felt the same. I suppose we are sick of the sight of each other really! But we both know what kind of games they will be and we all realise it will be tough. "I was desperate for us to get Bayern Munich because I wanted to play in their new ground. I like to play in different stadiums across Europe, but if we beat Chelsea we could still draw them in the semi-final."
