Jamie Carragher says Liverpool supporters can help lift the club this week. Rafael Benitez's side face Lyon in the Champions League on Tuesday, followed by the all-important visit of champions Manchester United next Sunday. With Liverpool's title hopes all but written off following their defeat at Sunderland, Carragher says the entire club must pull together. And Carragher believes Benitez's composure will guide the club through its worst run in five years. Stand-in skipper Carragher said: 'We are not playing well and the supporters know that. I am sure there will be a lot of stick flying around before the Lyon game, that is part of playing for a big club, but I am sure against Lyon the supporters will rally round. 'They realise we are not playing well and we perhaps need a bit of a confidence boost. I think we will all stick together and there will be a rousing atmosphere and we will respond. 'Every game we play for Liverpool is huge this was always going to be a massive week. A few people were writing us off and I am sure a few more will now but I have been here for 15 years and we have been written off so many times but we always fight back because we are Liverpool, we are a massive club and we've got character. 'The manager will stay calm because he has the experience and he knows in football you go through these spells that is why you are a top club because you have been through these spells and have to show the character to come through it. 'I would not say this is one of the biggest weeks of my life, I have played in Champions League finals but it is always a massive week when you play for Liverpool.'
