Carra praises defenders

Jamie Carragher was full of praise for John Flanagan and Jack Robinson after their performances yesterday. Flanagan started for the Reds vs Arsenal while Robinson entered the fray as a 20th minute subsitute. Both full-backs impressed the vice-captain with their assured displays. "They were brilliant," said Carra. "It's unbelievable really when you think about how young they are. "The one thing these lads have is character. To play for Liverpool you need character, no matter how good a player you are. "You can have ups and downs but you've got to be strong and know how to deal with things mentally. "Jack had to come on to play against Walcott and I wouldn't even like that job myself, never mind a 17-year-old lad! "You can see the spirit in Flanno and Jack. They put their foot in, they are brave and they have a go. "They are also two good players, they are not just committed and they can play as well. "The one thing we have got in abundance with those two young full-backs is character and you need that if you want to have a long career at Liverpool - our fans demand it. "It was a great testament to the young lads. "Jay Spearing was excellent again in the middle of the park. He was fantastic against Manchester City and he did it again against Arsenal."
