Carra has cause for concern

Jamie Carragher has admitted Liverpool's pre-season form is a cause for concern with the start of the new Premier League season rapidly approaching. Rafa Benitez's men were beaten 3-0 by Espanyol in Barcelona in their most recent outing, and have claimed just one victory from their four other warm-up matches. The Reds kick-off their bid to end a 20-year wait for the title with a testing trip to Tottenham on 16th August, live on Sky Sports 1 and HD1. And while defensive stalwart Carragher was unhappy with their reverse in Spain, he still believes they have the time to put things right before travelling to White Hart Lane. "Espanyol was only a pre-season game but it was still a disappointing result for us because you never want to get beaten," Carragher said. Ready "Sunday's defeat was a mixture of things. It just wasn't our night but it's getting closer to the season now and we've got a couple of weeks to put it right. "That's what these games are all about though and, hopefully, we'll be ready when the season kicks-off. "From our point of view, we've still got a few players coming back into it and I think we felt it in the conditions out there." Star striker Fernando Torres and goalkeeper Pepe Reina returned to the side against Espanyol and former England international Carragher was delighted to see them back in action. He added: "It's good they came back as they're two of our big players - one at one end of the pitch and one at the other. That's one of the positives to come out of it. "A couple of players have had the chance to build up their match fitness and, hopefully, it will all come together by the time we play Tottenham."
