Carra backs Scouse pair

Jamie Carragher has backed his fellow Scousers to fire England to victory this afternoon. Carragher believes Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney can help England beat Germany to reach the World Cup quarter-finals later today. "I think in Rooney and Gerrard we've got two of the best players in the world," said Carragher. "Stevie has been fantastic at this tournament and we're probably just waiting for Wayne to take off. "If he had been banging in all sorts of goals in every game we'd be delighted, but I'm looking at it in a different way. If Wayne has gone eight games without a goal then there must be one right around the corner. "He's Wayne, you know? This season he's been the top player in the country - and one of the best five in the world. There are no worries there. "I have seen this kind of thing before at Liverpool with Steven. When great players go through a quiet patch then people question them. "But you always know that players who are that good always have that ability to produce something different when you least expect it. "Steven is like that and Wayne is just the same. "The performance we had against Slovenia the other night was good and if you get every single player firing on top of that who knows where we could take it?"
