Can you guess which Liverpool player listens to Slipknot?

Jose Enrique is the biggest poser, Brad Jones listens to Pink Floyd and Slipknot, and Raheem Sterling’s wardrobe essentials are – clothes.

The innermost secrets of Liverpool’s dressing room were exposed as some of the players were “grilled” by members of the “grooming media” as the club announced a new partnership with skincare brand Nivea Men.

For players used to being asked questions like “You must be pleased with the result?”, being quizzed on their acting prowess and pre-match grooming routines was some way out of the comfort zone of Jordan Henderson, Raheem Sterling and Simon Mignolet, who all star in a television advert as part of the promotion.

If they had been present in the room for the pre-amble they would have heard one of the pharmaceutical company’s top men explaining the reason they had entered into the partnership was because “like your face, you have to be prepared for challenges”.

This was a challenge which, for a while, appeared to be beyond the comprehension of the players.

When Mignolet was asked to reveal who was the biggest preener in the dressing room he politely declined to “out” any of his team-mates.

Henderson, who arrived later due to some essential pre-match preparation with the analysis staff, had obviously not got the same memo.

The same question was asked to him and without hestitation he replied: “Jose”. “Is he stylish?” was the follow-up. “Unfortunately not.”

But Henderson wasn’t done. On the subject of dressing room music he said they liked to mix it up because “different people like different things” although he said the did not play anything too slow.

Although, for all their inclusivity he did reveal goalkeeper Jones’ tastes were a bit too different: “Brad listens to Pink Floyd and Slipknot as well.”

Sterling, as should maybe be expected of someone not long out of their teens, was the one with the smart-alec answer.

“What would you consider an essential part of your wardrobe?” he was asked. “Clothes,” he replied, although doors, sides or the hanging rail would have been equally acceptable.

Contributions came in from Google Hangout participants in Finland and Denmark while those in the room were advised their questions should only be “non-football” – as the football journalists were getting their own separate bit later on.

You suspected, by this point, the players would have been craving a return to familiar ground with “Talk us through your goal”, “Can you make the top four?” or the much-repeated “Tell us about Steven Gerrard”.

Sterling, who has yet to sign an “incredible” new contract at the club, was asked what his most stressful moment was.

“The alarm clock, when it goes off in the morning at 8.45am.”

Oh to be a Premier League footballer.
