Can Klopp's Liverpool Win The Double?

With recent wins in the Europe and the Premier League and a jump up the table as a result, one has to take notice of an improving Liverpool side, both in the English Premier League and European competition as well. We see that they are playing a different kind of football. They seem more focussed on what is important to them for such success to take place. So, can Jürgen Klopp bring to Anfield something that has for so long eluded them, a Premier League title and success in Europe, in the same season, his first? Now that would be something special, putting the other “Special One” in the shade a little as a result.

Betting odds [Paddy Power] give 12/1 for Liverpool to be successful in Europe, assuming as second favourites, that they can overcome all other teams for that title and that is not a bad bet either, for those who have a few of the hard earned stashed away somewhere. But what would the odds be of a double? One would think that they would decrease significantly the more they continue in their winning ways.

With a revitalised team and a new ethos around the ground, the fans are sure to be keen for them to be successful and those of us who are fans, or follow other teams, will surely be cheering them on in Europe, should they get to a final because suddenly, Liverpool seem to have their sparkle back. They suffered after the departure of their superstar striker to Barcelona and it did appear, especially with injury to Sturridge and the then sale to City of Raheem Sterling that their lustre had gone. Indeed, what followed on the pitch led to the departure of Brendan Rodgers.

The signing of Jürgen Klopp however, was a truly inspired move by the board at Anfield. The change from standing off a player, to one where each ball is chased, where each lost ball is retrieved with speed, when possible, and the passion that is being shown now must be having a reaction with the fans. They usually sing that with Liverpool, “You’ll never walk alone” and that much is now true; the solidarity is there that once seemed lost, but also the passion to be successful. The team concept has returned, so there is nothing to stop Klopp, or Liverpool, from taking both titles this year.

That is, apart from injuries, a lack of self-belief and a good old dose of bad luck. Sport is a fickle thing at the best of times. You only have to remember a little way back to a most famous slip, where a title was lost in an instant, or on the flip side to another time when the eventual winners were about to lose a title and then up popped their talisman striker in the last seconds to net the winner and the title. Anything can go pear shaped in sport and football is no different to any other that exists. Can Liverpool win the double this season? They have a huge chance to do so! Bring on the football!
