Boss Roy needs to change tack

iverpool have made a poor start to the season and TEAMtalk's Sam Nightingale feels boss Roy Hodgson needs to change his tactics.[LNB] Hodgson arrived at Anfield this summer after the exit of Rafael Benitez and there seemed a new sense of optimism amongst Reds fans for the future, especially with the arrival of Joe Cole plus Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres committing their futures to the club.[LNB]However, the fans' summer optimism has dwindled after Liverpool earned just six points from their first six Premier League games. The poor form and continuing uncertainty surrounding the ownership of Liverpool means the club just does not seem able to move forward - both on and off the pitch.[LNB]Hogdson did a great job at Fulham and he needs time to implement his ideas, but the current tactics are a concern.[LNB]Liverpool's defence seems to be playing much deeper and the players are not pressing the opposition enough when they have the ball, which is inviting pressure on to the backline. In my view, the defence needs to play higher up the pitch, with much more closing down of the opposition.[LNB]Fernando Torres needs more support and I would have David Ngog up front with him to ease the pressure on the Spaniard, who is still working his way back to full fitness.[LNB]Raul Meireles is a great player but I don't understand why another attacking midfielder was brought in when the Reds had already signed Cole.[LNB]And Hodgson could consider playing Daniel Agger as a holding midfielder as Christian Poulsen seems to be struggling with the pace of the English game.[LNB]Off the pitch, things could change next month but the fans thought a new owner would be in place during the summer. Any potential owners are probably playing a waiting game until mid-October when RBS could well come in and take control of the club before a sale, which would then be at a lower price.[LNB]But the club's current owners, George Gillette Junior and Tom Hicks, may not give up without a fight and the whole matter could end up in court.[LNB]Liverpool need to get back to winning ways on the pitch, and hopefully the off-the-pitch ownership saga will finally be resolved next month, but don't hold your breath.
