Preview: Liverpool v Bolton
28 Jan 2010 - 14:49:15
Liverpool welcome Bolton Wanderers to Anfield on Saturday afternoon looking to bounce back from yet another disappointing Premier League scoreline in the week.
The Merseyside giants failed to down lowly Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux as they fired blanks in a goalless stalemate.
Rafael Benitez's Reds have picked up in recent times with wins against Wolves on Boxing Day, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur with a draw away at Stoke City that reinvigorated their top-four challenge prior to the Molineux meeting.
But the draw against Mick McCarthy's men will now put pressure on Jamie Carragher and co to grab victory over Owen Coyle's Bolton Wanderers.
Coupled with Spurs' win against Fulham, Liverpool now trail the London side, who occupy fourth spot, by three points.
Coyle will feel much better in the Trotters hot-seat following two successive Premier League defeats to Arsenal, but the narrow 1-0 triumph against Burnley's - Coyle's former club - has aided their relegation fears.
The three points, courtesy of a Chung-Yong Lee effort, has fired Coyle's side out of the relegation places and they have leapfrogged his former Clarets outfit.
Liverpool have several injury concerns with defenders Daniel Agger (groin) and Glen Johnson (knee ligament) both out.
Star striker Fernando Torres (knee cartilage) is expected to be out until the end of February alongside Yossi Benayoun (rib). Talisman and captain Steven Gerrard (hamstring) continues to struggle.
Bolton will be without knee victim trio Sean Davis, Joey O'Brien and Mark Davies, who are all expected to be missing for the rest of the campaign.
Benitez may have one eye on the club's next five fixtures.
They face local rivals Everton and top-four rivals Arsenal and Manchester City with a two-legged Europa League showdown against Unirea Urziceni to look forward to as they try once more to salvage their stop-start season.
Bolton themselves kick off the month of February with a home clash against Fulham, knowing a win at the Reebok Stadium would pull them further out of the quagmire.
