A WEEK is a long time in the life of Liverpool Football Club. The past seven days have seen a former Reds manager endure a chastening defeat on his return to Anfield and the club's star striker become a father for the second time.[LNB]Lucas has become flavour of the month, Ryan Babel has belatedly decided to showcase his talents and the new owners are giving free tickets away.[LNB]Chuck in the fact the silly season has started with boss Roy Hodgson being linked with moves for an array of star names across Europe and it's no surprise that one piece of news passed almost unnoticed.[LNB] The statement on Liverpool's website on Wednesday was short and sweet.[LNB]'Liverpool FC has released Charles Itandje from his contract and the goalkeeper has signed a two and a half year contract with Greek Super League club Atromitos. He will officially join the Athens-based club on January 1, 2011,' it read.[LNB]On the face of it the departure of a goalkeeper who only played seven games for the Reds and hadn't featured since the FA Cup debacle at home to Barnsley in February 2008 was nothing to get excited about.[LNB]But for Liverpool it was a triumph. They had finally banished for good a disruptive influence whose continued presence had continued to aggravate players, officials and supporters alike.[LNB]Itandje had long since known he had no future at Anfield but consistently resisted attempts by the club to move him on.
