Black Cats keen on Dempsey

Sunderland have reportedly expressed an interest in Fulham's wantaway forward Clint Dempsey ahead of Friday's transfer deadline.

Dempsey has been left out of the Cottagers' first two games after informing Martin Jol he did not want to play for the club again. Liverpool were heavily linked with a move for Dempsey, with Fulham reporting the Reds to the FA about their attempts to sign the 29-year-old American. But the Cottagers could do business with a different Premier League rival after confirming that Sunderland had enquired about Dempsey's availability. Dempsey netted 23 goals in 46 games last season and is believed to command a fee of around £8million.

Black Cats boss Martin O'Neill has already added some attacking threat to his squad with the signings of Steven Fletcher and Adam Johnson.
