Benitez unsure over Aquilani

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez does not know how long Alberto Aquilani's latest injury which keep him sidelined for.

Aquilani, 25, has started just eight games for the Reds since his £20million arrival last summer from AS Roma.

A serious ankle injury kept the Italy midfielder on the sidelines until October and since then he has been in and out of the Anfield treatment room.

Aquilani missed the midweek Europa League trip to Benfica with another ankle problem and Benitez does not know how long the injury-prone midfielder will now be out of action for.

"He was complaining of pain in his ankle and said he couldn't train," Benitez told the Liverpool Echo.

"We will have to talk with the doctors when we get back to see what's going on because at the moment we don't know.

"He has some pain and we will just analyse that with the doctor. It's the same ankle he did before.

"Some players maybe can manage with the pain, but some, when they have pain, cannot.

"It depends on each individual and that makes it really difficult."
