Benitez sets double target
09 Apr 2010 - 07:46:57
Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez claims there is still all to play for this season after seeing his side book their place in the last four of the Europa League.
Benitez believes the Reds' progress in Europe following Thursday's 4-1 quarter-final second leg victory over Benfica will boost their chances of finishing in the Premier League's top four.
Dirk Kuyt opened the scoring before Lucas Leiva doubled their advantage before the interval.
Fernando Torres looked to have put the contest beyond doubt but Oscar Cardozo's free-kick set up a nervy finish.
However, Torres had the last laugh as he raced through to finish, securing a 5-3 aggregate success and setting up a last-four clash with the Spanish outfit where he made his name.
Anfield rocked to the sound of a European success and afterwards Benitez claimed their season is still very much alive.
The Spaniard has come under fire with the Reds now needing Manchester City and Tottenham to slip-up if they are to finish fourth in the league and secure a return to the Champions League.
"Hopefully we can play well, score goals, get closer to the top four and get to the final," said Benitez.
"We will try to win every game. We will try to do it against Fulham on Sunday and try to get close t the top four.
"If we can get to the final and win the final we will be very pleased. We have two targets now and we will try to do both."
