Benitez won't have the final say on transfers, warns Hicks Liverpool deal

Liverpool[LNB]co-owner Tom Hicks insists Rafa Benitez will not have the final say on transfers despite signing a new five-year contract.[LNB]The Spanish boss has been frustrated with his attempts to boost his squad in recent years and there were fears he would walk out on the club.[LNB]Hicks admits he is delighted that Benitez has agreed to stay at Anfield but warned the boss that himself, fellow owner George Gillett and the replacement for outgoing chief executive Rick Parry will still have to give the thumbs-up on any arrivals.[LNB] Tough talk: Tom Hicks (right) with George Gillett[LNB]'I sat down with Rafa a couple of months ago and he made it very clearthat he knows a manager can't have control over transfer budget,' Hicks said.[LNB]'Hehas had his frustrations over the last five years and those are wellchronicled but he will make the recommendations about which players wesign and the new CEO, the owners and the board will make the finalfinancial commitment. And that is the way it needs to be.'[LNB]Hick says he had no fears about securing Benitez's long-term future at the club.[LNB]'I was never worried we would lose Rafa,' he added. 'These things are complicated.
