Benitez targets double success

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez believes his side are demonstrating the neccesary attributes to win the UEFA Champions League and Premier League this season. The Reds welcome English rivals Chelsea to Anfield on Wednesday night in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final, live on Sky Sports 1 & HD1, while they remain in the hunt for the domestic title. Benitez has seen his side score 14 goals in their last four games in all competitions as they appear to have hit form with perfect timing, and Saturday's late win at Fulham demonstrated a resilience which has been missing in previous campaigns. The Spaniard feels that Liverpool are not only equipped to end a 19-year wait for a league title, but are also exhibiting the qualities required to record a sixth success on the continent. "I think we can fight for the Premier League and the European Cup," he told the club's official website. "We have enough confidence, we are playing well and we are creating a lot of opportunities in every single game. "Now we are looking to keep the momentum going because we have shown that we can beat anyone so should believe that we can make progress in both competitions." Benitez is expecting a tough tie with Chelsea after meeting the West London outfit in the past five seasons, but he is confident that if the performance which swept aside Real Madrid in the last 16 is replicated, there is a good chance of progressing. "Against the top sides the difference can be the small details that I am always talking about," he added. "Our matches against Chelsea prove this because we have played against them many times and you can see that it is sometimes an own goal, sometimes a penalty and sometimes a little thing which decides the games. "It will be difficult because Chelsea have experience and they know our style but if we play at the same level as we did against Real Madrid then we can beat anyone." The former Valencia boss has also urged his players to remember the pain they felt when losing to Chelsea in last season's Champions League semi-finals. "The players who were involved last time will remember for sure," said Benitez. "It is obvious that when you win a big game in an important competition that you will have good feelings and when the result goes against you the feelings will not be so good. "The important thing after you lose is to remember how you felt and try to make sure that you do not have to feel this way the next time. "We can change things this year and this is what we will be trying to do."
