Bellamy slams Magpies
24 Sep 2006 - 15:48:49
Liverpool striker Craig Bellamy has launched a bitter attack on Newcastle United, the club he left in acrimonious circumstances almost two years ago.
The Wales international was allowed to exit St James' Park after embarking on an infamous war of words with then Magpies boss Graeme Souness.
The rift re-emerged on Wednesday when Bellamy clashed with Newcastle coach Terry McDermott, who described the 27-year-old as 'a little upstart'.
"There was always going to be something from Newcastle but it doesn't bother me. Not at all," said Bellamy.
"I was half-expecting something because my being at Liverpool is hurting them. This is the club I've always wanted to play for and maybe there are people who aren't too happy about that.
"I'm sure there are people there (at Newcastle) who don't want me to succeed here, because it reminds them every time.
"It was a ridiculously cheap fee I went to Blackburn for, it's not nice for me to be remembered for that.
"What was it, about £3.75million? That hurts. I know that but that's the game we play."
