Bellamy earns Tosh praise
12 Oct 2006 - 09:42:19
Wales boss John Toshack hailed the performance of stand-in skipper Craig Bellamy in the 3-1 win over Cyprus at the Millennium Stadium.
The Liverpool ace netted the final goal for Wales after putting in a committed display that did much to erase the memory of a dismal 5-1 home reverse to Slovakia at the weekend.
Toshack said: "Craig produced an outstanding performance. Everything he did was outstanding and it proves it was the right decision to make him captain.
"Craig has been excellent. He has grown into the job since he has been with us, he has understood the extra responsibilities and it showed on the pitch.
"You could see the positions he was taking up, dropping into different areas so he could link up better with people.
"That showed he was concerned about others and showing the right response to things that were going on for other players."
