Bellamy cleared of assault
29 Nov 2006 - 17:52:29
Liverpool striker Craig Bellamy has been cleared of assaulting two women in a Cardiff nightclub.
The 27-year-old Wales international was accused of assault against Sophie Palmer and Holly Smith at the No 10 club in February.
The five-day trial ended on Wednesday when district judge John Charles cleared Bellamy at Cardiff Magistrates Court.
Franklin Lynch was found not guilty of common assault against Ms Palmer.
Ms Palmer had said in court: "I began to walk through a gap and Craig Bellamy was walking in the other direction and he bumped into me. He was quite aggressive, he was just swaggering around.
"I turned around and said to him: 'Excuse me why couldn't you wait in that gap there?' He swore at me, said I was too fat to get around, and called me a 'slag'.
"He grabbed me with both hands around the neck and held me up against the wall and he was squeezing."
