Barnsley manager Simon Davey has revealed the Championship club are on the verge of landing Adam Hammill and O'Neil Thompson. Liverpool midfielder Hammill impressed during a loan spell at Oakwell last season and looks set to return to the Tykes. Jamaica international Thompson shone during pre-season at Barnsley and is poised to be unveiled, along with Hammill, in the next 48 hours. Davey told The Star: "We've agreed a fee with Liverpool for Adam and agreed a deal to bring O'Neill into the club, they're both players I rate very highly. "It's been really frustrating to sign players, but Adam will be a really good signing for us, he's young and got lots of years in front of him. "And O'Neil will be another good signing. We were made aware of him through some reports we had from Norway and then Jamal Campbell-Ryce gave him a glowing reference. "At the end of the day he's an international player and when he's come in he's done well. The criteria we were looking at was to find a centre-half who could play between 20-30 games a season, but the bonus is that he can play a dual role and play in the centre of midfield. "He's 6ft 4in, composed, strong and has a real presence about him. He's also a very good organiser and, probably not surprisingly, he's good in the air because of his height."
