Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has decided to hand Fabio Aurelio a new two-year contract less than three months after the Brazilian was released by former Reds boss Rafa Benitez.
The 30-year-old left Anfield in May following the expiry of his contract but has impressed Hodgson after being offered the chance to train with the rest of the squad.
Aurelio, who is expected to play some part in the pre-season friendly against Borussia Monchengladbach, told the club's official website: "I feel very pleased and proud.
"It feels like I am signing for the first time - everything has changed so it is like a new beginning for me with new confidence and a new boss. Hopefully I can do well this season.
"My aim is to help the team do better than last season. Everything is going really well, so I think we can progress a lot.
"We have made some good additions to the team and we can be very confident.
"I have been working for a while by myself since the end of my contract and trying to keep fit in pre-season, so I think I am in good condition.
"Hopefully I can have some involvement in the game against Moenchengladbach."
