Liverpool defender Fabio Aurelio faces a lengthy spell out of action after suffering a suspected ruptured Achilles in the 3-0 Champions League victory at PSV Eindhoven.

The 27-year-old Brazilian left-back pulled up 15 minutes from time in the Philips Stadion, with the injury putting a cloud on an otherwise perfect night for the Reds.

Manager Rafa Benitez said: "Fabio has started to play really well, this is a very bad blow for him and us.

"There was nobody anywhere near him, he felt as if he had been hit by a stone. The pain was from behind and it struck him like he had been hit.

"We played well, it was an organised, effective performance, but we are all more concerned about Fabio.

"It was a terrible injury. We believe it is very serious, although we will not be sure until after a scan when we get back to Liverpool."
