Atletico Madrid ace finally set for Liverpool move?

With the January transfer window just over a month away the rumours are piling up, some believable some not so realistic.

This one though could have some substance to it as it concerns one Atletico Madrid's Turkish international Arda Turan.

The Express is reporting that both Liverpool and Man Utd are set to activate Turan's £33m release clause.

The reason I believe this rumour has some truth to it is because Brendan Rodgers is looking to upgrade his squad with players that can come in and make an instant impact and the Atletico man is certainly capable of this (as of writing he's contributed to three goals and five assists in Spain).

If it did come down to Man Utd and Liverpool fighting it out for the Turkish internationals signature Liverpool (even though they currently don’t have Champions League football to offer) would have the upper hand as Turan is a self-confessed Liverpool fan which is seen on his Wikipedia page.

'As I always mention, Liverpool attracts me because of their tradition. In Europe, I am a Liverpool supporter, so if I go to play in Europe, I would like to play for them.'

His agent Ahmet Bulut stated last season "A destination in the Premier League would be to the liking of the player and I can confirm there are clubs interested, like the two mentioned," said Bulut.

"He wants to work in England."

In terms of what he brings to the team, he can play anywhere in midfield and he's comfortable on the ball which would appeal to Rodgers and the style of football he's implementing at Liverpool.

His versatility would also be seen as a positive as he can fill any of the roles in midfield.

Turan is the sort of player that would suit the formula of football at Liverpool as I stated earlier as he isn't afraid to take on 2-3 players with the ball at his feet and has a knack for drawing defenders away from their marking duties which opens the door for a incisive pass to a team mate that leads to a goal.
