Aspas out, Hernandez in as Liverpool looks to bolster attacking options
Spanish outfit Valencia is interested in capturing out-of-favour Liverpool striker Iago Aspas on a six-month loan deal during the January transfer window. The Spaniard has failed to have any real impact on Merseyside after his £7.7 million summer move from Celta de Vigo.
In ten Premier League appearances this season, Aspas has yet to get on the score sheet. Even though the 26 year old picked up his first goal for Liverpool in their most recent match against Oldham in the FA Cup, if the Reds are to mount a serious challenge for a top four spot, they need to bolster their replacement options for start strikers Suarez and Sturridge, in case of any injuries, suspensions or dip in form during the remainder of the season.
So with Aspas likely to go out on loan, Liverpool will look towards another Uruguayan striker to strengthen their attacking options. Palermo striker Abel Hernandez will reportedly be heading to Merseyside in the very near future to tie up a deal that is said to be in the region of £5 million.
23 year old Hernandez has been with Palermo for the past five years and has scored 33 goals in 111 appearances for the minnow club. This season Palermo are playing in the second tier Italian league, Serie B and with the drop in standard, Hernandez has picked up 11 goals in 17 league appearances.
Reports are suggesting that Fiorentina may battle with the Reds for Hernandez’s signature but with the opportunity to team up with Luis Suarez; this should be enough to convince him to move to Merseyside.
