Arbeloa passes Real medical

Alvaro Arbeloa has moved a step closer to sealing his transfer from Liverpool to Real Madrid after passing a medical in the Spanish capital.

The two teams have already agreed a transfer fee, believed to be in the region of £3.5million, for the 26-year-old.

Real's medical chief, Carlos Diez, told his club's official website: "He (Arbeloa) has undergone a standard examination and the results of all the tests are very satisfactory.

"He is delighted to be able to play for Real Madrid, which has been his lifelong dream. He's looking forward to joining his team-mates."

Arbeloa is now expected to sign a five-year contract with the Spanish giants.

The Spain international started his career at Real before moving to Deportivo La Coruna and then Liverpool in January 2007, and he went on to make 98 first-team appearances for Rafa Benitez's side.
