Former Liverpool player and manager Kenny Dalglish has returned to Anfield to take up a senior role in the club's academy and as a global ambassador for the Premier League outfit.
The Scotland international made more than 500 appearances for the Reds in a 13-year spell before taking on the managerial reins in 1985.
He spent six years as manager before quitting and going on to take charge of Blackburn Rovers, Newcastle United and Celtic.
Managing director Christian Purslow said of the appointment: "In our very first meeting Rafa (Benitez) and I agreed that we wanted to try and bring Kenny back to the club.
"That would help Rafa really drive forward our academy, which is at the heart of our plans for the future.
"We are delighted he has agreed to join us and I am sure he will be very successful in his new role back at the club."
