Andrea Dossena ready to battle for Liverpool FC future

ANDREA DOSSENA insists he is happy at Liverpool and wants to stay and fight for his place. The Italian left-back was expected to leave Anfield this summer after failing to impress following his £7million move from Udinese a year ago. Napoli were keen on taking the 27-year-old back to Serie A for £4million but Dossena failed to agree personal terms. The defender was overlooked for Sunday's 2-1 defeat at Tottenham with youngster Emiliano Insua preferred at left-back. Manager Rafa Benitez also has Fabio Aurelio to come back from injury in the coming weeks but Dossena, who has three years left on his current deal, is in no rush to cut short his stay on Merseyside. "I've heard a lot of rumours about my future this summer but the truth is I want to remain at Liverpool," he said. "I'm happy with my team-mates, with my coach and with the club. I have never wanted to leave." Dossena watched from the substitutes bench as Liverpool struggled against Spurs on Sunday and he admits they need to raise their game ahead of tomorrow night's clash with Stoke City at Anfield.
