Alonso refuses to rule out move

Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso has refused to rule out a move away from the club amid speculation that Real Madrid are keen to secure his services. The 27-year-old appears to be a wanted man just a year after Liverpool looked set to offload him to Juventus to allow them to sign Gareth Barry. But after that deal fell through, Alonso enjoyed one of his best seasons in a Liverpool shirt, although he is coy about what the future has in store this time around. "I don't close any door in that area, so we'll see what happens," was the player's response to questions about his future. "Last year I was close to joining Juventus, I do not have a defined career plan. It is always good that several clubs want you - it's better than no-one wanting you - but I can't do too much about it. "I know that I have to do my work well and, in the future, I'll decide what I have to decide." Alonso has also revealed that his relationship with manager Rafa Benitez does not extend beyond the pitch, telling Spain's Don Balon magazine: "My relationship with Benitez is professional, like he has with any other player. I leave it at that - professional."
