Alonso recovery on track
21 Jan 2009 - 17:32:12
Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez is confident Xabi Alonso will have recovered from a foot injury in time to feature in the FA Cup fourth round clash against Everton this weekend.
However, Daniel Agger could miss out again after failing to make the squad for Monday's 1-1 draw with the Toffees at Anfield because of a calf problem.
Benitez told the club's official website: "Daniel was injured before Monday's game and couldn't train normally.
"He is progressing now by working with the physios. He'll still need one or two days, so we'll see. It depends more on the physios than on me - we just have to wait.
"Xabi had a problem on Monday but he was training again on Wednesday so I don't think he'll have any trouble for the weekend."
Meanwhile, Benitez has called on his team to return to the form they showed in last month's 5-1 victory at Newcastle United, since when they have been held to draws by Stoke City and Everton.
He said of his side's display at St James' Park: "On that day we scored a lot of goals, created a lot of chances and played some good football so clearly we are looking for this kind of performance in every kind of game.
"If we can play as well as we did against Newcastle then I am sure that we can win a lot of games.
"I think that game was really good because we passed the ball well and kept the ball well, there were a lot of positives That is the idea of how we want to play."
