Albert Riera eyes Russian move

Liverpool winger Albert Riera has confirmed he hopes to join a Russian club this week.

The Spaniard looks to have little future at Anfield after being suspended for an outspoken attack on manager Rafael Benitez last week. The 27-year-old former Espanyol and Manchester City player has been linked with Moscow clubs Spartak and CSKA, although the latter have denied interest.

Riera, quoted in Russian newspaper Sport-Express, said: "I suppose that Russia is a very interesting offer because it's the only prestigious league at the moment whose transfer window is open still."

He added: "Moreover, if I play in Russia constantly I hope to be called to the national team for the World Cup in South Africa.

"I hope that all the things concerning my move to Russia will be decided during this week."

Riera criticised Benitez's man-management skills and referred to Liverpool as a "sinking ship".

Riera, who joined the Reds for £8million in 2008, has found first-team opportunities limited this season, making just nine Barclays Premier League starts.
