Alan Shearer plays Newcastle United and Liverpool Entertainers Reunited

Newcastle United have been hunting high and low for a new No 9 since the departure of Andy Carroll.[LNB]The famous jersey has not been pulled on since the England striker left for Liverpool in January.[LNB]But as these pictures show, the St James's Park club have gone back to the past to find a striker to keep the club in the upper echelons of the Premier League.[LNB] Toon legend: Alan Shearer leads out his Newcastle Entertainers side [LNB]United took on Liverpool at Kingston Park in a re-enactment of the famous 4-3 match at Anfield in 1996.[LNB]Among the Toon heroes taking part were Alan Shearer, Steve Watson, Lee Clark, Philippe Albert, Darren Peacock, Steve Howey, Keith Gillespie, Brian Kilcline, Rob Lee, Faustino Asprilla, John Beresford, and David Ginola.[LNB]The Liverpool side featured Steve McManaman, Jason McAteer, Don Hutchison, Bruce Grobbelar, Patrick Berger, Ian Rush, Michael Thomas and Neale McDermott.[LNB] In charge: Kevin Keegan with his team (above) and Tino Asprilla and David Ginola[LNB] [LNB] [LNB]Kevin Keegan and Phil Thompson were in charge of the respective sides.[LNB]The match was held to raise funds for NSPCC, CHUF, Alan Shearer Centre, Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and NE Children's Charity Pathways. [LNB]Newcastle opened the scoring thanks to Steve Watson but McManaman hit back to level the scores.[LNB]Liverpool pulled clear and led 3-1 when the Magpies were awarded a penalty only for Toon legend Shearer to miss from the spot.
