Agger op adds to Reds woes

Liverpool's defensive problems have increased following news that Daniel Agger faces an extended spell on the sidelines.

Agger has missed the opening two games of the season with a back problem and the Denmark international has now been told he requires surgery.

The 24-year-old centre-half is now likely to be sidelined for six to eight weeks.

The news is a further blow to Reds boss Rafael Benitez as fellow defenders Martin Skrtel and Fabio Aurelio are currently sidelined with jaw and knee problems respectively.

However, Benitez is hoping to complete a £2million move for Sotirios Kyrgiakos from AEK Athens before Monday's meeting with Aston Villa.

The experienced Greece international has already agreed terms over a move to Anfield and will complete the deal if he passes a medical.
