Agger no closer to new deal
11 Feb 2009 - 11:03:02
Defender Daniel Agger has questioned Liverpool's desire to keep him at Anfield after revealing he is no closer to signing a new contract.
The Denmark international has 18 months remaining on his existing deal and was heavily linked with a move to AC Milan during the January transfer window.
Reds boss Rafael Benitez urged the club to offer the 24-year-old centre-half a new deal, but Agger claims that so far there have been no discussions over extending his contract.
"There is no dialogue on a new contract with the club. It seemed like Liverpool were eager to close this deal and sign a new contract but that proved to be wrong," he said.
However, Agger claims he is happy to put his long-term future on hold until the summer.
"For me it's okay to wait and see how things evolve in the summer," he added.
"I believe that I am in a good position for negotiations and I wish for more time in the red jersey."
