Agger - Gerrard will lift us

Daniel Agger has admitted that it is a great boost to have Steven Gerrard available for the UEFA Champions League clash with Lyon. Gerrard had to sit out the Premier League defeat to Sunderland at the weekend after suffering a groin injury whilst on international duty. But he returned to training on Monday and will lead his side out for the vital European encounter at Anfield. The Danish defender believes the midfielder's presence will have a positive influence on Liverpool's other players. "Stevie would lift any team in the world," said Agger. "I don't have to say anything about him, everyone knows. "He is not only a brilliant footballer, he is also a really good person - and a strong character, someone who helps others. "A person like that is hard to be without so to have him back is a great boost - not only for his football abilities but his personality. "First of all he is a fantastic captain and is always in the front line protecting the team and working hard. "Every player in that team, especially the younger ones, will say he has helped them in one way or another. He is that kind of person." Agger was linked with a move away from Liverpool earlier this year but he insists he is happy at the club and determined to play a key role in future. "I want to play for this team and I really enjoy it - not only on the pitch but on the outside, which is very important for me," he explained.
