Agger delight at new deal

Liverpool defender Daniel Agger has expressed his happiness after signing a new contract with the club. Speculation had suggested that Agger could leave Anfield at the end of the season but he agreed fresh terms over the weekend. The centre-back will now stay with the Reds until 2014 and he is thrilled to have committed his future to a club he joined from Brondby three years ago. "Of course I would be happy to stay at Liverpool because it is what I've been working for for the last few years," he told Liverpool's official website. "It's important as a player to have the faith of your manager because if you don't have that then you're probably not at the right club." Agger accepts that it will be difficult for Liverpool to catch Manchester United in the Premier League title race despite a 3-0 victory over Newcastle on Sunday that he believes could have been even more convincing. "I think our performances have been good of late and we know that all we can do now is win our own games, we can't do any more than that," he said. "We were a bit unlucky not to score more than we did and I think we could have done with getting more because you never know how the season will end and goal difference could still be important. "The other positive was that we kept a clean sheet because we have conceded too many goals by our own standards in the last few games."
