The agent of Liverpool defender Alvaro Arbeloa believes that his client is likely to choose to leave Anfield this summer.
The 26-year-old Spain international has been heavily linked with a return home to join Real Madrid, with the Reds having snapped up England right-back Glen Johnson for £18million from Portsmouth.
Arbeloa's representative, Garcia Quilon, told the Sunday Mirror: "Alvaro has a year left on his current deal and Rafa Benitez knows that it's best to let him go now.
"The career of a football player has many stages and he is qualified to play anywhere."
Liverpool boss Benitez had earlier told the club's official website: "Alvaro was a good player for us last year. The thing is, he has one year left on his contract. We have offered him an extension and we're talking.
"He is our player, but if there is a good offer we have to consider it. We have two or three clubs asking about him.
"He would like to stay, but he knows the competition will be hard."
