According to the Sun, Walter Tamer met with Barcelona technical director Txiki Beguiristain at the city's Juan Carlos Hotel yesterday. And it is reported that Barca would be willing to offer £20 million for the combative Argentina international. While Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez will do all he can do keep Mascherano at Anfield, one player who is looking increasingly likely to leave is full-back Alvaro Arbeloa, who is wanted by Real Madrid. The Spain international has not hidden his desire to return to La Liga and his sale - Liverpool are demanding £10m for the defender - would free up funds to sign £18m-rated Portsmouth and England right-back Glen Johnson. Arbeloa said: "Going back to Spain is always an idea that's in my mind. "I'm happy in Liverpool but I'd like to go back as I've barely had a chance to play in the top flight over there. "It's always nice to be thought of by important teams, more still when it's this Real Madrid which Florentino (Perez) is buidling. "They are making a big effort to build a great team. I have a year left at Liverpool but anything could happen. "Certainly, I will go back one day because, outside of football, I miss everything I have in my country."
