Adam Lallana set to break Liverpool stalemate

It seems the negotiations for the transfer of Adam Lallana from Southampton to Liverpool will be given fresh impetus as the player himself intends to talk to the clubs chiefs in order to get the deal moving again after the World Cup. Talks had broken down over the price for the 26-year-old midfielder according to the Independent with the Saints holding out for £30m, a fee that Liverpool are unwilling to meet.

The paper states that Lallana is reluctant to make a formal transfer request due to his long good standing with the club and fans that goes back to when the player was just twelve. Lallana has been with the club from League One obscurity and into the Premier League.

The Independent also reported recently that the player linked with moves to Spurs and Liverpool would only be sold if their valuation is met, meaning the player may have to force through the transfer in order to be reunited with striker Rickie Lambert:

"We need to sit down, assess and audit our squad and look at the strengths and weaknesses," he said.

"Anybody seriously considering coming for our players are going to have to think very significantly about the size of the fee. If we do take money it will be because it's the right amount and it enables us to improve the team and move forward.

"We'll look at players that we'd like to bring in and then look at the individual cases of the players who may want to leave.

The transfer is further complicated by the involvement of Bournemouth who will make 25 per cent of any offer.
