Ablett to leave Liverpool

Liverpool have confirmed that reserve team boss Gary Ablett is to leave the club. The former Liverpool and Everton defender has been in charge of the club's second string since 2006 and in the 2007-08 season managed the side to the national reserve title. The fortunes of the reserves dipped this season and they finished second from bottom in their league. Manager Rafael Benitez is making several changes amongst his backroom coaches, and Ablett will leave Anfield after taking a young Liverpool side to compete in the International Cor Groenewegen tournament in Holland at the weekend. Benitez is also believed to be planning further coaching changes with Hugh McAuley (under-18s), Dave Shannon (under-16s) and Paul Lever (under-14s) also likely to be casualties of the changes. Frank McParland and Pep Segura have already been appointed to roles at the academy while John McMahon, Kenny Dalglish and Gary McAllister are all believed to be lined up for positions.
