A Luis Suarez-inspired Liverpool thrashed Swansea 5-0 in the Premier League
Philippe Coutinho scored on his full debut as a Luis Suarez-inspired Liverpool thrashed Swansea 5-0 to climb into seventh in the Premier League. Swansea boss Michael Laudrup, with next Sunday's Capital One Cup final in mind, made seven changes to his side and the Reds took full advantage, with Suarez outstanding. He won a 34th-minute penalty off Kemy Agustien which Steven Gerrard duly slotted home for the opener. Just 16 seconds after the break new signing Coutinho doubled the advantage after an assist by Suarez. Jose Enrique put the game to bed with a third four minutes later following a great team passing move and one-two with Daniel Sturridge. Suarez then got the goal his play deserved on 56 minutes from a Stewart Downing assist. Sturridge completed the scoring from the penalty spot with 19 minutes to play after the ball hit substitute Wayne Routledge in the box, before the Liverpool striker hit the bar with a placed effort. Suarez went off to a standing ovation on 78 minutes and was replaced by Fabio Borini. At the other end Routledge forced Pepe Reina into a good save to deny Swansea a consolation. Liverpool's day was then marred when substitute Borini went off with a suspected dislocated shoulder following a challenge. The Reds had used all their substitutes so finished with ten men as they emphatically ended a five-match winless run in all competitions.
