A breakdown of the Premier League's best player this season: Luis Suarez

15 March 2013 16:24

Luis Suarez won player of the tournament at Copa America 2011 but by his high standards Suarez only managed 11 league goals for Liverpool in the 2011/12 season. Liverpool managed to win the League Cup but the levels Suarez had performed at were nothing to be compared with this season.

Suarez currently leads the scoring charts in the Premier league with 22 goals in just 28 games and another seven goals in cup competitions this campaign. The Uruguayan averages a goal every 114 minutes in the league this season, taking 117 shots with a 19% conversion rate. It’s not just his goal threat that has worried defences he also has created over 70 opportunities for his team-mates.

If he can continue this kind of form till the end of the season he could cement his place in history with the famous reds and break all sorts of records. The PFA player of the year award has to go to Luis Suarez after this incredible season. Gareth Bale and Robin van Persie offer the striker great competition and could potentially win the award but for me personally Suarez has to win the award for his goals. You must not forget that along with his 22 Premier league goals he has also assisted 9 times and looks set to potentially join the “30” club.
