5 reasons Steven Gerrard will feel at home in Los Angeles

Steven Gerrard is leaving the grey days of Liverpool for the sunny skies of La La Land. You might think there couldn’t be a greater contrast between the two places, but that is where you’d be mistaken.

There are far more similarities between the shores of the Mersey and the California coast than it seems.

Here’s but a few.

1. They’re all sun-kissed

People in LA and Liverpool are super-tanned. With all the hiking, beach volleyballing and driving in convertibles, people in LA enjoy a healthy-looking, sun-kissed glow.

Liverpool’s residents are no stranger to the tan too, even if it comes from a slightly less natural place.

2. Everybody loves the dialect

Both places have accents that people love to copy. Scousers have heard plenty of impressions of their distinctive dialect and Cali isn’t much different.

Remember all those Clueless catchphrases like “As if!” and “Whatever” and saying everything was, like, really really awesome? That’s your standard Valley girl impersonation.

3. They’ve both got a rich culture

Both cities are incredibly proud of their musical heritage. Everyone knows the Beatles came from Liverpool but Elvis Costello, the La’s, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Echo and the Bunnymen, the Zutons and even Atomic Kitten started off not far from the Mersey.

Los Angeles is home to the Doors, the Beach Boys, Guns N’ Roses, N.W.A, Metallica, the Eagles, Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Monkees and countless others huge acts.

4. Harmless narcissism

Appearance is all-important. Tans notwithstanding, residents of LA and Liverpool love to look good.

Angelenos sweat it out in hot yoga and Soulcycle for the perfect physique while the lovely ladies of Liverpool spend their hard earned cash on hair extensions, nail art and designer swag.

5. Stargazing

Everyone loves a superstar. Fame is the ultimate currency in Los Angeles, where star-spotting tourists and paparazzi trawl the streets hoping for a glimpse of a familiar face.

Stevie G has been the pride of Liverpool for so long he knows the perks and perils of fame.

LA will be a walk in the park.
