Red Imps waiting on McCombe decision

Lincoln City have agreed terms with Jamie McCombe and are now waiting for confirmation from Scunthorpe United that they are prepared to let the defender leave.

The 21-year-old has started just seven league games for the Iron this season and had a spell on loan at Halifax Town before Christmas, and his agent claims to have been given permission to find a new club for his client.

Red Imps assistant manager Gary Simpson isn't entirely convinced that the deal will go through though.

"We were approached by Jamie McCombe's agent who said he was available on a free and were we interested," Simpson told the Lincolnshire Echo.

"We are looking for cover in defence because Ben Futcher and Simon Weaver are both close to suspensions.

"He fitted into our financial structure and terms were agreed with the lad when he came down to us.

"We were told his agent had it in writing that he was available on a free transfer and therefore within his right to talk to other clubs.

"Now it seems Scunthorpe are trying to stop it happening and we're waiting for the outcome."

McCombe is a product of the Iron's youth system and has made more than 50 first-team starts since his debut in October 2001.
