Darlo denied by late equaliser

Published: 09 Feb 2010 - 23:04:44

The Quakers took a deserved lead after 38 minutes when Imps goalkeeper Rob Burch allowed a 20-yard drive from Gary Dempsey to slip through his hands and the ball rolled slowly over the line. The Quakers had a penalty appeal turned down after 46 minutes when Mor Diop fell down in the box following a tangle with Adam Watts. Lincoln almost took advantage of their lucky escape to level matters but substitute Lenell John-Lewis was inches away from connecting with a free-kick from Scott Kerr. Darlington skipper Ian Miller then preserved his side's lead by blocking a goal-bound effort from Brian Gilmour, but he could do nothing about the Imps' leveller seven minutes from time. Hone hooked the ball over Shane Redmond, who had raced out of the Darlington goal and failed to punch the ball clear.
