Hereford 2-2 Lincoln City: Report

27 November 2010 21:31
Bulls bounce back to force replay Hereford fought back twice to claim a 2-2 draw in their second round FA Cup battle against Lincoln at Edgar Street. Lincoln led 2-1 with five minutes remaining but Frenchman Mathieu Manset fired home Hereford's equaliser from the penalty spot after Adam Watts had fouled striker Stuart Fleetwood. Lincoln were the more forceful side in the opening stages with winger Mustapha Carayol having a shot saved by Hereford goalkeeper Adam Bartlett before the Imps took the lead in the 18th minute. Ashley Grimes latched on to a long ball from Scott Kerr before racing into Hereford's penalty area to lob the ball over the top of Bartlett into the net. Hereford however levelled four minutes later when midfielder Rob Purdie took advantage of a Lincoln defensive mix-up to score from close-range. But Lincoln quickly regained the lead when Carayol latched onto a mistake by Michael Townsend before slotting past Bartlett from eight yards. Two minutes before the break Hereford should have levelled again when they were awarded a penalty but goalkeeper Joe Anyon made a fine diving save to stop Fleetwood's spot kick. Straight after the break Hereford's midfielder Kenny Lunt cleared the Lincoln crossbar from 30 yards before substitute Manset saw a blistering 25-yard drive tipped over the bar by Anyon. But with five minutes remaining Manset made no mistake with his spot kick when he sent Anyon the wrong way to force a replay.
