France's Professional Football League (LFP) has pledged to investigate a clash between Aurelien Chedjou and Johan Cavalli that occurred during Lille's 4-1 defeat of Ajaccio in Ligue 1 on Sunday.

The two players clashed on their way to the changing rooms at half-time and Ajaccio captain Jean-Baptiste Pierazzi revealed after the match that Cavalli claimed Lille centre-back Chedjou had called him "a dirty Corsican".

"I trust Johan more than 100 percent," said Pierazzi.

"They'll have to react. It's not right to hear that on the pitch in this day and age."

However, Lille captain Rio Mavuba sprang to his team-mate's defence.

"I'd be surprised if Aurelien had said that," he said.

"Yes, it's true that things kicked off. Cavalli won't be the last to kick off on the pitch. It's one person's word against another."

On Sunday evening, the LFP released a statement revealing that it had "opened an inquiry in order to bring this affair to light as quickly as possible".
