Leyton Orient's Sean Thornton has been handed a four-match suspension after the midfielder's appeal against his red card in Saturday's draw at Leeds United was rejected by the Football Association.
The FA backed referee Nigel Miller's decision that the former Sunderland and Doncaster Rovers star "challenged with an opponent for an aerial ball, the opponent won the ball in the air and Thornton punched the opponent in the head".
O's boss Martin Ling told the club's official website: "We're very disappointed that the appeal has been rejected because we felt we had a very good case.
"The referee's report said that Sean punched Seb Carole and we didn't think that description matched the incident.
"But we'll have to take the news on the chin, put the Leeds game to bed and now focus our minds on Port Vale this Saturday."
It was Thornton's second red card of the season following his dismissal in the 1-0 defeat at Cardiff City in August.
